How to Harness the Magick of the Cosmos: A Wiccan Guide for the Astrological Zodiacs
The Goddess Kingdom2023-08-10T23:35:28+00:00“As above, so below; as below, so above.” This axiom is regarded as an accepted truth in many New Age, occultist, and hermetic traditions, as well as in Wicca and Witchcraft. The paraphrase accredited to the Hellenistic figure, Hermes Trismegistus and his Emerald Tablet; was understood to be a reference regarding the effects of celestial mechanics on terrestrial events. This concept is identical to the Wiccan’s Wheel of the Year. This universal law is a concept that Wiccans, mystics, and occultists referred to as the Principle of Correspondence.
As Wiccans, we utilize the Principle of Correspondence in all of our magickal workings. Everything placed within our altars is chosen by its energy correspondence. The timing of our spells corresponds with the energies of the Moon. And by applying the axiom of “As above, so below,” and the Principle of Correspondence we can even further fuel our magickal workings by timing our spells with the energies of zodiac harnessing the magik of the cosmos.
Astrology is an ancient form of divination that uses the position of the planets, stars, and constellations to predict the future. It is believed these energies not only influence the Earth’s events but humans, their personalities, and even their destinies. Astrology was also used by our ancestors as the foundation for both magik and alchemy.
The most common form of astrology seen today was developed by the ancient Greeks in approximately 323 BCE. For the Greeks, each planet was a representation of deity and its corresponding energy and personality. The twelve major constellations (or zodiacs), represented the “House” of the deity and the energy the “House” contained. Each zodiac, the planet positions, and the aspects they created had a vibrational and magickal influence on the earth and all humanity.
The twelve zodiac signs correspond to one of the four elements: air, fire, water, or earth. The energy of the four elements can further be defined as: Cardinal (zodiacs that mark the beginning of a season and contain the spark of creation); Fixed (zodiacs that fall in the middle of the seasons and contain grounding, stabilizing energy) and Mutable (zodiacs that mark the end of a season and contain transitional energies).

As Wiccans, we believe that everything in the universe has a single originating source – The Goddess. It stands to reason that if everything is created by the same source, then everything created by The Goddess is governed by the same universal laws. Within today’s modern science we can substantiate this to be true. The same laws of physics that keep planets in orbit circulating a star are the same laws of physics that keep electrons orbiting the nucleus of an atom – “As above, so below.” And by combining the laws governing the Moon’s energy and its phases, and the laws governing the astrological zodiac with the Principle of Correspondence; any magickal workings we seed into the universe cannot fail. Within our beliefs, we can truly tap into and harness the power of the cosmos to work miracles beyond our wildest dreams.
